Homeless
Youth Benefit,
featuring
a variety of art work by Isaac Everhart
(formerly of the Thought Police), Jessica
Walz (2004 graduate of MCAD), Patti
Olson (potter from Northern Clay Center), Judy
Esse (painter of abstracts and landscapes in oil
and watercolor), Scott Moyer (mixed
media pieces that reflect expressionism and surrealism and
deal with the good vs evil conflict within man), and Eric
Carlson (MCAD student and poster-screenprinter).
The common theme between these artists is their excitement
about the opportunity to share in a way that is beneficial
to others. The opening will feature educational art about
the homeless youth issue, interactive opportunities, live
music, and refreshments. Appr. 70% of proceeds benefit homeless
youth: the money raised will go to an outreach to homeless
youth in Florida. The night featured art for sale by artists
listed above and performances by local musicians Black Hole
(hip-hop/funk), Angry Atom (pop-punk), Jonathan Kilpatrick
(acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter), No Small Wonder
(acoustic emo duet), and Libbie Kent (acoustic guitarist
and singer-songwriter). 7pm-midnight, $6 suggested donation,
discount advance tickets available.
Creatures
Build Character.
Featuring
art by Isaac Everhart, Matt Irwin, Nick Epp, 27 (street
artist), Eric Carlson, Nathan Enkel, Micheal Wong, Seamus
Leonard, and Meghan Burkhardt. This is art that hasn't been
properly categorized. It comes from cartoons, graffitti,
punk rock, hip hop, the streets. some call it "post-graffitti",
but that's not really a complete descriptor. These artists
all grew up on comic books, skateboarding, and making zines,
and most have little or no formal training in fine art.
Nevertheless, this style of art work "...has been recognized
in other cities," says Everhart, the curator of the
show, and he cites the show "Beautiful Losers"
that has been travelling the country. It's highly recommended
to come check out the creatures and characters depicted
in this show.

9-30, 2004: “Dis-grace”- Collaborative
work in many different media: On
Good Friday of Easter week, we hosted an event called “Dis-Grace.”
The theme was the 14 Stations of the Cross (the time between
Christ being condemned to death and being laid in the tomb)
plus the resurrection. “The irony of the vehicle that brought
grace into the world - suffered the ultimate disgrace and
death,” was the sub-title. The stations were displayed between
6 – 7:30 and attendees participated with interactive sculpture
and mug shots and finger printing (click more info for a
better description of each station). At 7:30 we gathered
in the warehouse and had a presentation of each station
that included multimedia, paintings, drawings, performance
art, drum jams, installations, spoken word, and live music.
It was a powerful night that allowed many to see the death
of Christ in a new light. More
